How can I get my toy fox terrier to stop peeing on things around the house?

He's 5 years old and goes to the bathroom outside but he marks his territory on the leg of the couch and on my bed. How can I get him to stop? Will getting him fixed do anything? Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to get rid of my dog that I've had since he was a puppy!
