Third eye open but...?

I opened my third eye chakra. My friend can see spirits and she said it is open. But the only problem is that I cannot see anything... My friend's mother told me to just meditate and concentrate on it but I keep falling asleep.. I was just wondering what do you need to do in order to see spirits. (my eye is open) Like what things to do while meditating. How to astral project. Cast spells once it's open that kind of stuff.
