So how do I start to attempt a hair-style like this?

Definately grow it out first about 2 inches (an average of 4 months). Than, get some more layers all around it (ask your hair dresser and show her/him the pic). It should be simple to get the texture if your hair is already curly, if not, use a sea-salt texturizing spray). Hope I helped! :)
